But Pastor Craig, I feel like God did not show up when I wanted Him to show up.
I have heard this countless times over the years.
Today, I have a story I would like to share with you. You have probably heard it before, but let’s look at it again. John 11:21-27:
21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” 27 “Yes, Lord,” she told him, “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.”
Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were lovers of Jesus and Jesus loved them. He had stayed at their house. They needed Him to show up and work a miracle, and He chooses not to come. The Scripture says that when Jesus finally arrived, Lazarus had been dead for 4 days. Jesus shows up way late – He didn’t pray for him when he was sick, and then Jesus missed the funeral as well! Lazarus had died.
Has God allowed something in your life to die? A dream? An ambition?
Some people know what it is like to have something die. Jesus let him die. And He loved him. Swallow that. Sometimes God will let your dream die. Lazarus wasn’t just struggling; he was dead, dead. He is 4 days gone, but Jesus is about to reveal a deeper level of His glory!
Here is the principle: When Jesus doesn’t show up in your situation, you can bet your bottom dollar He is about to take you to another level in your life!
Verse 21 sounds like this today: “God if you would have been there I would not be the way I am.” “God I would not have been this far behind everyone else if you would have shown up earlier.” Martha expressed honest frustration in verse 21, but faith follows it in the same breath in verse 22! She then says I know that God will raise him up in the last day, but Jesus is talking about now!
Jesus says, “I am the Resurrection and the Life.” To this point, Martha had only known Him as healer, but now she is about to know Him as resurrection! Is it possible why God allowed what happened to you so He can raise you up? If you were not brought so low, could He have ever raised you up?
Jesus doesn’t want us to trust in what He does but Who He is! He did not say I have the ability to resurrect. He said I am the Resurrection. When I show up, everything LIVES!
That same power who raised Lazarus and Jesus from the dead is calling out to you today. The resurrection power of God is here now.
But I ask you what Jesus asked her, “Do you believe this?”
